Using donor sperm to grow your family.

Finding a sperm donor to achieve a pregnancy has been a common clinical practice since the 1970s. Today, people in need of donor sperm have access to a wider selection of donors than ever before.

30-60,000 babies are conceived annually using donor sperm, making family-building possible for…

ANONYMOUS VS. KNOWN DONOR SPERM –

WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY-BUILDING GOALS?

Anonymous

Donor

  • Donors have been extensively screened prior to eligibility, and sperm is tested in compliance with FDA regulations before it’s available for purchase
  • Availability for use almost immediately
  • Donors and intended parents do not know each other before, during, or after the process
  • Less flexibility around subsequent embryo transfers from the same sperm donor source

Known

Donor

  • Donor sperm used to achieve pregnancy is taken from someone the couple or individual have a preexisting relationship with – often a friend or family member
  • A longer process, since donor must pass series of medical, social, and psychological tests before they can be approved to donate sperm, and sperm must pass testing and quarantine before it can be used
  • Lower cost option, since the known donor is often giving their sperm without compensation and the IPs are working without an agency

Reciprocal IVF has unlocked new options for lesbian couples and pre-transition trans men. There’s something uniquely special about this path to parenthood, as it grants both partners in a relationship the opportunity to participate in the fertility journey, alongside a sperm donor. And trans men who have yet to begin their hormone replacement therapy and gender-reassignment surgery have the opportunity to move forward with the IVF process with a female partner using their own eggs or uterus.
– Dr. Peter Klatsky, co-founder of Spring Fertility

Growing up, I knew that it took two to tango but I never realized it sometimes takes three (or four!) to make a baby. After a previous experience outside of Spring left us thinking how we envisioned building our family was not possible, Dr. Harris put all of those fears aside and told us he would do everything to help us create the family of our dreams, just the way we hoped, with me carrying my wife’s eggs. Thanks to him and the generosity of our anonymous donor, we have two little boys of our dreams. It took a village from day one and we are forever grateful to be living in this age of science and medicine that brought our vision – and boys – to life.
