Egg Variability

Not every cycle produces perfect eggs. Here are eggs from an ICSI done recently that all have different shapes and characteristics. Some have multiple polar bodies or are oblong in shape and not round. Another has a large polar body. Finally, the last egg looks morphologically normal.

Different egg shapes can have an impact on the cycle outcome given that there may not be the same expectations for each egg. Embryologists will usually make notes about this so if anything out of the ordinary is seen, they can look back and remember that at the ICSI there were some different morphologies.
